As the name suggests,  Prime Rib is not the meat you get at a regular Meat Shop. Instead, what you need when planning a special occasion, like its taste, aroma, or even texture, stands out. However, the question is, can you purchase Prime Rib at the Grocery Store?

Prime Rib roast customers can buy at higher-end Grocery Stores such as Costco. However, the local butcher store is the best place to buy Prime Rib. Usually, this classic roast beef preparation can be labeled as Prime Rib, Rib roast, or Beef-Bone-in-Rib-Roast. Customers should ask the butcher always to prepare high-quality Tender, marbled, and flavorful Prime ribs.

For example, I bought Angus Boneless Prime Rib for $249.99 in January 2023 at Costco, but usually, I believe, at my local butcher.

The first grade of beef is more marbled, tender, fresh, and flavorful, Also known as the USDA Prime. This is what you should even let the shop person or the butcher understand when you’re there to buy meat. Being expensive meat, it is more often found in 5-star hotels and restaurants. 

Stay away from those colored with a dull, dusky shade and full of yellow-colored fat. You only want fresh meat and the most marble textured. This is a crucial criterion as the most marbled prime rib is from very young and well-fed breeds and groups.

It would help if you were a little cautious while buying the meat, as only the “Prime” label doesn’t mean that you’re receiving USDA Approved prime graded beef. 

But to be honest, USDA Prime doesn’t ensure you’re getting better. 

The popular opinion is that the most pricey meat is the best. But it’s not always the case. So, you can choose the superb quality or even the grass-fed choice. Prime has the highest USDA Grade, followed by selection and Select. 

We wouldn’t recommend you go for Select or some other beef that informs you about the grade. 

To put it in simple words, guide yourself with the USDA Grade stickers as they’re so convenient and easily visible. Don’t reply only by the word “Prime” that you got the super, as only 2% of all beef qualifies as USDA Prime. But it’s worth the price if you can buy or afford it.

We’ve been repeating it for quite a while now that the prime rib is expensive, and having read about it till here; you would’ve come to know why. You would also agree that prime rib is the best for special occasions. 

You must be wondering how much 10lb of the prime rib made you feel taken back.

So, be all about to shell out $200 up to $349.99 for a 10lb pack of prime rib. It’ll be affordable if you go for a Choice or Select USDA Prime. The cost can also be with change according to the location you’re getting it from. You might have to place an order to work for its availability.
